14 DAY TRIAL // It’s no longer a secret that Windows 10 Mobile is projected to go dark later this year, so Microsoft no longer releases any feature updates, but only security patches to resolve vulnerabilities in the OS.
The April 2019 Patch Tuesday, for instance, brought a new cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile devices.
Update KB4495357 increases the OS build number to 15254.562 – keep in mind that Windows 10 Mobile smartphones are still running Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update), as Microsoft hasn’t released a newer feature update for phones.
According to the official changelog, this cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile includes all the improvements that are part of another cumulative update, this time KB4493474.
This update, however, is the April 2019 cumulative update for Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703) for PCs.
The changelog doesn’t seem to point to any mobile-specific improvement, but you can check out the full release notes in the box after the jump to see the contents of cumulative update KB4493474.
Worth knowing, however, is that this update includes security patches for Windows 10 and several built-in components, like the Microsoft Scripting engine, the Windows app platform, the Windows Graphics engine, and the Windows kernel.
No known issues
According to Microsoft, there’s no known issue in cumulative update KB4495357 for Windows 10 Mobile devices.
As you probably know already, Microsoft decided to give up on its smartphone platform, so Windows 10 Mobile is projected to be retired in December. This means that the updates that land in the meantime are mostly security fixes for the vulnerabilities discovered in the operating and only published as part of monthly Patch Tuesday rollout.
In the meantime, even Microsoft recommends users to switch to Android or iOS for continued app support, as most of the services developed by the company are already available on these two mobile operating systems.
