New update now available for version 1803

Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) with the focus on bug fixes and quality improvements.

No other Windows 10 version is getting a cumulative update today, but systems on version 1803 can download KB4462933 either from Windows Update or directly from Microsoft’s Update Catalog.

The update, which bumps OS build number to 17134.376, comes with a rather huge changelog and it includes improvements that may not necessarily be visible at first glance. You can check out the full release notes in the box at the end of the article.

One of the highlights is a fix for BSOD issue occurring when removing Bluetooth devices from the computer, a problem that I’ve seen reported several times in the last few months.

No known issues

Also, this update corrects a bug preventing the launch of Windows Defender Application Guard on Windows 10 N in Europe after servicing, while also bringing app window handling improvements to the OS. Microsoft explains:

“Addresses an issue that prevents applications from displaying a pop-up window or dialog box when the applications are in full-screen mode. For example, in a full-screen game, attempting to alter settings such as Multisampling Antialiasing (MSAA) will fail because the confirmation dialog does not appear. The dialog is hidden behind the application.”

There are no known issues in this update, which means it should install correctly for all users, but as usual, this is something that remains to be seen after more devices get the cumulative update.

One thing worth mentioning is that KB4462933 also requires the latest servicing stack update, which for Windows 10 version 1803 is KB4456655. However, devices will be offered this update automatically on Windows Update as well, so no further checks are necessary.

If this update fails to install, checking whether the SSU installed correctly is the first troubleshooting step you should take.
