New patch shipped to April 2018 Update systems

Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 cumulative update for systems running the April 2018 Update, and this is the second such update published this month after the first one landed on Patch Tuesday.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4345421 bumps the OS build to 17134.166, and it is exclusively focused on non-security fixes - security updates are typically rolled out on Patch Tuesday, unless they are included in an out-of-band release that Microsoft uses to address a major security vulnerability in its products.

There are four different changes in this update, and one of them is a fix for a BSOD caused on some systems after installing the July 2018 Patch Tuesday cumulative update. Microsoft says that some devices running network monitoring workloads encountered a 0xD1 Stop error, and installing this new update should resolve this behavior.

Additionally, the company explains that on some PCs, users experience loss of connectivity due to a DHCP Failover server bug causing clients to receive an invalid configuration when requesting IP addresses.

No known issues

There are also improvements for SQL Server services and for W3SVC systems, and Microsoft recommends installing this cumulative update as soon as possible to address all problems.

There are no known issues this time, which means that all Windows 10 April 2018 Update systems should be able to install cumulative update KB4345421 correctly. At the time of publishing this article, there are no reports of failed installs or any other issues caused by this update.

As usual, we’ll continue to monitor the main feedback channels to find out whether cumulative update KB4345421 installs correctly or not.

The next Patch Tuesday, which is also the date when Microsoft is projected to release a new batch of cumulative update with security fixes, is scheduled to take place on August 14. More cumulative updates, however, could land in the meantime with more OS refinements.
