New option reportedly shows up in latest Mail app version

Microsoft has just released a new update for the Windows 10 Mail app, reportedly introducing a new feature that should have been there for everyone from the very beginning.

By the looks of things, Windows 10 Mail app version 17.9330.21205.0 is all about software improvements and refinements to the overall performance, but a report from MSPU indicates that users are also getting new options for the Reading Pane.

Specifically, the cited source says Microsoft brings support for external content in mails, which means that images that are integrated into the messages you receive and hosted on external servers can be loaded just like it’s the case in a fully-featured email client like Mozilla Thunderbird.

This feature, however, has already been there for a long time on some of our Windows 10 PCs, so perhaps with this release Microsoft makes it available to everyone.

Fluent Design becoming a key part of Mail app

It’s also believed that Microsoft is making some subtle changes to the Fluent Design implementation in Windows 10 Mail app, though for the time being, no noticeable difference can be spotted.

On the other hand, Microsoft’s Fluent Design implementation in Windows 10 is going forward, and the Mail app itself has already received an overhaul as part of this new design language. The app features both the acrylic and the reveal effects, and there’s a chance that as Fluent Design is becoming a more prominent part of Windows 10, more such improvements would be introduced.

You can download the latest version of the Mail app from the Microsoft Store right now, and let us know in the box after the jump whether you come across any unmentioned changes. The said external content options are available in Settings > Reading pane > External content (in the lower part of the Settings menu).
