Microsoft has just released the very first major Windows 11 update, and just as expected, it comes with several new features to those whose PCs have already been updated to this OS version.

The most notable debut is the one of Android apps on Windows 11, with Microsoft explaining the feature is now available as a preview to users in the United States.

Most likely, it’s all just a matter of time until the Android app supports goes live for users in other regions, but for now, it remains exclusive to those in Microsoft’s home market.

Then, the update also includes taskbar improvements to mute and unmute calls without the need for opening apps, as well as the return of weather on the taskbar. Furthermore, Microsoft is introducing two new apps – the modern versions of Media Player and Notepad.

All improvements live today via Windows Update

The update is available today via Windows Update for all devices running Windows 11, and Microsoft says it’s committed to delivering more improvements in a timely manner.

Microsoft is also bringing the Windows clock to secondary monitors where such a configuration exists – this has actually been one of the most requested features since the debut of Windows 11.

“As more people are working, learning and connecting from home, many are working using multiple monitors and want access to the same information across their screens. We listened to feedback and are now bringing the date and time to your second monitor. When a secondary monitor is connected, your clock and date will now be shown on the Taskbar of the secondary monitor or monitors for glanceability as you work or play,” Microsoft explained in an announcement today.

In other words, the company doesn’t want to wait until a new feature update is ready to launch but bring these improvements to users with the help of smaller updates shipped via Windows Update just like a quality update.
