Microsoft has released a new firmware update for its smallest and cheapest Surface model on the market.
Surface Go users can thus download the update from Windows Update right now, but their devices must be running at least Windows 10 April 2018 Update, or version 1803.
Microsoft Surface Go units that have already been updated to the October 2018 Update (version 1809) or May 2019 Update (version 1903) are also getting the new firmware version.
There are two driver updates in this new firmware for improved pen support and refined touch performance. You can find the full changes and the new driver versions in the table at the end of the article.
No known issue
Microsoft says there is no known issue in this update, so you can safely install it on your device right now. On the other hand, keep in mind that once you install a new firmware update, you can’t revert it.
“When you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your Surface doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface will be downloaded and installed,” Microsoft notes.
The company also emphasizes that firmware updates are released to Surface devices in stages, so if the new version isn’t yet up for grabs on your Surface Go, just wait for a couple more days and then check for updates in Windows Update once again.
Microsoft hasn’t released any other firmware updates for the rest of its Surface lineup. For example, the update history page still lists the May 2019 update as the latest firmware version for the Surface Pro 6.
