Microsoft has recently rolled out new firmware updates for two of its latest devices, the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4.

Change logs are very scarce at this moment, but they do mention that, on the Surface Book, the firmware update 1.1.421.0 improves the touchpad and keyboard experience, while on the Surface Pro 4, version 1.1.420.0 enhances the stability with the Type Cover.

Some other bug fixes are also likely to be included, and we’re hearing from some of our readers that Microsoft has also improved the overall stability of the operating system and fixed some bugs that were causing BSODs.

For example, a number of people were hit with blue screens when detaching the screen from the keyboard, and while it’s not clear whether this system hardware update fixes the problem for everyone, some improvements have certainly been made, several Surface Book owners claim.

More updates to come

Since it launched the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4, Microsoft has spent a significant amount of time analyzing feedback received from users and finding ways to improve performance, so the latest firmware updates do come with important changes in this regard.

But there still are problems that need to be fixed as soon as possible, including a freeze that’s impacting quite a big number of Surface Book devices.

Only little is known at this point, but word has it that it’s all because of faulty drivers. In fact, drivers have often been the cause of problems experienced on new devices, and Microsoft is now working with its partners to improve compatibility on Surface devices. As a result, more updates will be released in the coming months, but the next firmware update will definitely be released in early 2016.

For the moment, make sure you install this new update to keep your Surface up to date and report any problem you come across to increase the chances of having it fixed in the next release.
