Microsoft has recently announced that OneDrive Personal Vault is now available for all users worldwide, after the company previously released it in limited markets as part of a gradual rollout.

Personal Vault is a new OneDrive feature that allows users to require further authentication when accessing a specific folder. Technically, it’s a tool that makes it possible to set up protected folders in OneDrive for the sole purpose of enhancing security for sensitive information, such as passport data or any other personal details.

OneDrive’s Personal Vault works with fingerprint and face recognition, PIN protection, or a code that can be sent on email or SMS.

Personal Vault comes with a bunch of extras, including a scan and shoot option that allows you to scan documents and take photos that are then automatically uploaded to a protected folder.

There’s also automatic locking after a period of inactivity, as well as support for sync with a BitLocker area of your hard drive.

Dark mode in OneDrive for iOS

Microsoft has also announced new backup options that are available today in OneDrive.

“We made it easy to back up your important folders to OneDrive—so your files are protected and available even if something happens to your PC. With PC folder backup you can choose to automatically back up files in your Desktop, Documents, or Pictures folders to OneDrive. Now you don’t have to worry about protecting your work—OneDrive will do it for you,” Microsoft says.

In addition, OneDrive for iOS now comes with a dark mode that is automatically enabled when activating this visual style in iOS 13.

“This dramatic new look is both easy on the eyes and lets you take full advantage of an OLED screen to save battery life,” Microsoft explains.

The dark mode in OneDrive for iPhone requires the device to run iOS 13 or later.
