Older PCs run Windows 11 just fine, they say

The controversy surrounding Windows 11 system requirements is far from over, despite Microsoft publishing a long blog post to explain why exactly it needs newer computers to be the only ones running its upcoming operating system.

But on the other hand, users who turned to the Feedback Hub don’t agree with Microsoft’s approach, explaining in a discussion that has already received over 8,000 upvotes and 600 comments that Windows 11 can run on older configurations just fine.

“My 6th Gen i5 6500 checks all the right boxes except the CPU. That is total garbage. Not one issue with Windows 11 on the Dev channel. Utter nonsense when 4 gigs of RAM on Windows 10 is a joke. How many 8th Gen CPU's run 1 GHz?” one user explains.

Microsoft says it updated system requirements specifically to boost the security, compatibility, and reliability of the operating system, explaining that it collected feedback from the Windows Insider program and determined that the likelihood of fatal errors is much hardware when using old hardware.

Windows 11 is almost here

But users said on the Feedback Hub that the existing preview builds shipped as part of the Insider program are running just fine even if their computers do not meet the requirements that Microsoft has officially released.

“4th gen CPU may not have TPM. But they are quite strong CPUs. My device is running Windows 11 close to flawless,” someone says. “I have a custom build PC with Intel Core i5-7400 and it ticks all the boxes of requirement (like TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, etc.) for Windows 11 except for processor generation. My PC has been running Windows 11 Beta flawlessly for a couple of months now,” someone else says.

Windows 11 is projected to launch in October, and needless to say, there are almost no chances to see the system requirements updated again.
