The Surface companion app available on the Microsoft Store allows users to make the most of their Microsoft Surface devices, and needless to say, it’s important for the Redmond-based software giant to always keep the app fresh and up-to-date.

In the last few months, however, the Surface app hasn’t received anything else but small refinements and improvements, including bug fixes and stability optimizations.

However, a new version that is now live on the Microsoft Store comes with many more goodies, including notifications whenever new drivers and firmware updates are ready to be installed.

It goes without saying this is quite a handy addition, especially because this is a very easy way for users to make sure they always install the latest driver updates as soon as they are released. The notifications are aimed not only at Surface computers but also at accessories, so all your Microsoft devices that show up in the Surface app will therefore benefit from notifications for driver updates.

Here is what’s new in the latest version of the Surface app:

  • New user notifications for Surface driver and firmware updates for devices and accessories
  • Additional information for smart charging for Surface devices
  • Improved product recommendations for devices and accessories

If you want to download and install the Surface app, you must be running at least Windows 10 version 18362, but of course, you should get the full experience on Windows 11.

From what I can tell, the Surface app also feels a little bit snappier after this update, so maybe Microsoft has also included a series of other updates under the hood.

All users are recommended to download and install the new Surface app from the Microsoft Store as soon as possible to get the aforementioned improvements.
