Surface lineup presented in new official video

Microsoft will be holding a new Surface event later today in Shanghai, and only a few hours before the conference, the company rolled out a video to highlight the entire lineup and to suggest that more is coming as part of this device range.

The video was posted on Twitter by Panos Panay, the man in charge of everything Surface and who is expected to take the stage in Shanghai as well to introduce an updated device.

The official clip is all about how the Surface lineup evolved over time, showing fans reactions after product launches and highlighting some success stories of people using Surface for their business.

The next Surface model

Today’s product unveiling, however, is likely to bring us not a new-generation Surface, but a refresh of the existing model, with the focus to be on hardware this time.

Leaks that have reached the web lately indicate that the next Surface model wouldn't be a completely overhauled device, but only the existing Surface Pro 4 with some upgrades under the hood.

As a result, it’s likely to come with Kaby Lake chips, more RAM and storage, but also with updated accessories like a new Surface Pen and new keyboards. In fact, Microsoft itself has teased new Surface keyboards earlier this week and there’s a good chance all of them will be covered in Alcantara.

It’s also possible that this new version brings a change in terms of product naming, as Microsoft is believed to be planning on dropping the numbering and call the device just “Surface Pro.”

The event won’t be live streamed, which could be a sign that a new generation is not planned, though Microsoft intends to share all the new information on Twitter and the other social media channels. Expect the new Surface to go on sale next month, with pre-orders to begin as soon as this week.
