14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released a new Surface Book 2 firmware update that comes with improvements for the device regardless of the Windows 10 version they are currently running.
However, Microsoft has also included refinements that are available on the SB2 already updated to Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), and you can check the full changelog below.
The rollout started on November 28 and is now gradually reaching more devices, so if you are already using a Surface Book 2, you can check for updates in Windows Update to see if the firmware update is available for the laptop.
There are two different improvements that are available for Windows 10 version 1809 users with a Surface Book 2.
What’s new for Windows 10 version 1809?
First and foremost, this new firmware update comes with Surface System drivers version 3.0.10.1 with refinements for the Surface Pen. According to Microsoft, this update “resolves intermittent pen top button click failure on Surface Pen with no clip-on Windows 10 October 2018 Update, version 1809.”
Users are recommended to turn to the Surface Pen Checker Tool in order to verify that they are running the latest firmware version of the Surface Pen.
Additionally, there’s a new HIDClass driver in this release. With version 1.0.9.0, Surface Book 2 users get firmware update capabilities for the Surface Pen with no clip, as explained by Microsoft.
There are also lots of improvements for the other versions of Windows 10, including the April 2018 Update, and you can check all the changes in the box after the jump.
Keep in mind that you must have the Surface Book 2 charged or plugged in during the whole process. As usual, you won’t be able to uninstall or downgrade the firmware update, and a reboot is required to complete it. You can update manually from the Settings app.
