Microsoft has released a new firmware update for the Surface 3 running Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) and later.

The update is available right now from Windows update and it includes driver updates with improved battery stability and system security.

While you can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump, it’s worth noting that with this firmware release, the Surface UEFI driver is updated to version 1.51116.218.0, which according to Microsoft should offer improved battery stability.

The same in the case of the Surface Platform Power driver, which reaches version 2.1.655.0, as per the official release notes.

As it happens in the case of all the other Surface firmware updates, the rollout happens gradually to devices across the world, so if the new version isn’t yet there in Windows Update for your Surface 3, just check again later.

No known issues

There are known issues listed on the official update page, so this new firmware update should install correctly and not generate any problems after the process completes.

As for the supported Windows 10 versions, it’s important to keep in mind that Windows 10 version 1703, which is the oldest version that can install this firmware update, is no longer receiving OS updates unless devices are enrolled in the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) on Windows 10 Enterprise and Education.

Microsoft currently supports Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and newer on Home and Pro, and the majority of users are already running these versions. The April 2018 Update (version 1803) is currently the leading Windows 10 version on the market with approximately 89 percent share.

The most recent release is Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809), but this one is rolling out in stages to users across the world. Version 1809 was released to devices in November this year.
