Microsoft has just released an update for its Office 2016 insider preview build, as it introduces some new features and improvements aimed at those who want to help the company test the new productivity suite on their devices.

Specifically, Office 2016 is now at version 16.0.6769.2011 and today’s update brings new features, such as easier files and folder sharing, with Microsoft allowing users to go to OneDrive and quickly share files with a direct link or via email.

Furthermore, the company has improved the search photos option, again in OneDrive and again in order to allow users make the most of the productivity suite in the shortest possible time.

Photo search improvements in OneDrive

Starting with this version, OneDrive users can search for photos by analyzing tags and metadata, but also to extract and find text in the pictures. And what’s more, this update also brings the possibility of recognizing objects in a photo, which could further boost the app’s functionality by bringing options to categorize photos depending on the objects in them.

This feature is similar to an improvement that Microsoft is reportedly preparing for Windows 10 Redstone, as the company wants to improve the Photos app with an option that will make the difference between the people who appear in a picture. This way, users should be able to group photos in albums based on the persons showing up in them.

And last but not least, the new Office version comes with power query enhancements, with Microsoft providing a detailed description of the changes in this regard.

“In Excel, Power Query lets you discover, combine, and refine data across a wide variety of sources, as well as search for public data from sources such as Wikipedia. In this release, we've enhanced the connectivity capabilities and also added new transformations,” it says.

Keep in mind that this version is only available for insiders, but depending on the collected feedback, it could soon become available for all users along with all included improvements.
