While work on Windows 10 Mobile continues and Microsoft ships new preview builds on a regular basis, the company is also focusing on improving the performance of its new Lumia devices, including the 950 and the 950 XL.

Today Redmond has released a new firmware update for these two flagship Windows 10 Mobile devices, trying to fix a number of issues, but also to enhance performance in certain scenarios.

A Microsoft support engineer confirmed in a post on the company’s Community forums that Lumia 950 and 950 XL firmware is being updated to version 01078.00038.16025.390xx, explaining that it could take a while until everyone gets it because the release is still carrier-dependent.

“The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. At the time of writing this post, the update is available mainly for selected open market variants, but the rollouts should continue gradually during the coming days and weeks,” he said.

Fixes and performance improvements

According to the same post, this new firmware version comes with stability fixes, but also with improvements to GPS reliability and to call audio quality.

Indeed, not everyone is getting the new firmware right now, as it’s yet to land on our devices here at Softpedia too, but Microsoft says that all users should be receiving it in the coming days. If you want to check whether the new firmware version is already available on your device, go to Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates and see if any update is available.

As far as Windows 10 Mobile is concerned, rumor has it that Microsoft plans to release it this week, but there’s still no confirmation that this schedule is accurate. Windows Phone device owners can already get the new OS on their devices if they register for the Insider program, but this obviously means that they are testing pre-release software prone to bugs.
