Microsoft’s Surface Studio 2 is an amazing device, there’s no doubt it. It’s crazy expensive, but it’s awesome nonetheless, coming with features that you can hardly find on another all-in-one computer.

But on the other hand, the hardware capabilities of the Studio aren’t the only ones making the experience with the device truly magic, as Microsoft is also paying close attention to every small bit of software from one end to another.

And of course, firmware updates are playing a key role overall, and this is why the regular releases are so important for everybody owning a Studio.

This week, Microsoft officially released the May 2021 firmware update for the Surface Studio 2, and the new version comes with welcome improvements and new driver updates.

What’s new in the May 2021 firmware update

First and foremost, the Surface UEFI is being updated as part of this new release, with Microsoft explaining in the official release notes that it has addressed security problems, while also improving system stability. No further specifics have been provided in this regard, but overall, the Surface Studio should now feel a little bit more stable, as some critical bugs have likely been fixed.

In addition, the discrete GPU in the device is also getting an update, as Microsoft has included new drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and GeForce GTX 1070 cars. Once again, Microsoft says it has included security fixes and system stability refinements in these drivers.

The new firmware update is live right now for the first wave of devices, as Microsoft uses a phased rollout to make sure everything is working exactly as expected. Of course, the update is available via Windows Updates, so this is the place to check should you want to install it as soon as possible.
