Small improvements in this version, the company says

Microsoft has just released a new firmware update for the Band 2, its new smart wristband that was launched in October and is now available for purchase in the largest markets in the US and Europe.

The second-generation Band seems to receive updates from Microsoft on a regular basis, which does nothing more than confirm that the software giant is very keen on improving its hardware with new features as often as possible.

And while this new firmware does not bring any new features, it’s still a worthy download for all users because it’s exclusively focused on fixing bugs and improving performance in certain scenarios.

The company hasn’t offered a change log with this new firmware, but all Band 2 owners are recommended to get it as soon as possible (for the moment, this new firmware is only aimed at the second generation, so those using the first model aren’t included in the rollout).

Microsoft Band 2 comes with an overhauled design, which includes a curved screen, as compared to the original model that was often considered to be less comfortable on the wrist.

Additionally, the software giant has also changed the position of the batteries, which might prove to be a smart decision, given the fact that the first-generation model was often peeling off near the batteries.

As far as features are concerned, the biggest change on the Band 2 is the addition of a barometer that should help you measure elevation more accurately. This could clearly come in handy if you are a fan of hiking, otherwise the first-generation Band works just fine.

Just like the other firmware updates, the new version is available through the Health app installed on your phone. Simply launch the app, and in the settings screen, look for new firmware version - the app takes care of everything and automatically downloads and installs it.
