Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for all Windows 10 versions in order to correct a bug breaking down uk.gov websites in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.

The issue was introduced by the May 2019 Patch Tuesday security updates, and it exists not only on Windows 10, but also on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

However, Microsoft resolved the bug in Windows 7 and 8.1 with new updates shipped on Saturday.

The new cumulative updates bringing the fix to Windows 10 are available for all versions of the operating system, including the May 2019 Update. At this point, Windows 10 May 2019 Update, or version 1903, is still in the Windows Insider program, so the cumulative update can be installed on devices enrolled in the Slow and Release Preview rings.

All these updates come with a single change, as per the official release notes:

“Addresses an issue that may prevent access to some gov.uk websites that don’t support HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) when using Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge.”

Microsoft says the updates will be applied automatically on devices in the United Kingdom and a reboot may be required. Those living in other countries have to manually check for updates in Windows Update to receive the update. Again, an update is necessary to complete the update.
