Microsoft has released a massive Surface Pro firmware update, and the list of changes is absolutely huge – you can check it out in full at the end of the article.

The Surface Pro is Microsoft’s most recent Pro model, which no longer features any numbering system as part of a simplified naming approach that the company embraced.

And just like all the other Surface models, it receives firmware updates every month, with the July release bringing a plethora of improvements for nearly every single piece of hardware under the case.

Worth mentioning are the graphics updates which push the Intel drivers to version 24.20.100.6136 and include improvements for Intel HD Graphics 615, 620, and 640. According to Microsoft, “24.20.100.6136 improves system stability and performance and merges support for both Surface Pro (Model 1796) and Surface Pro with LTE Advanced (Model 1807).”

Gradual firmware update release

The July 2018 firmware update for the Surface Pro also includes improvements for the battery, pushing driver version to 1.2.28.0. Microsoft says in the official release notes that this update refines the Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery – Batteries module.

“1.2.28.0 improves system stability and merges support for both Surface Pro (Model 1796) and Surface Pro with LTE Advanced (Model 1807),” it explains.

The new firmware update can be downloaded from Windows Update just like any other update for Windows 10. Given how large it is, it could take a while until it downloads and installs completely, so make sure that you charge your Surface Pro or keep it connected to a charger until the process comes to an end.

Also worth knowing is that the firmware update rolls out in stages, and this means that some users may get the new release later than others. If the new firmware version isn’t available for you just yet, just check again later.
