Great news for Lumia 1020 owners who don't plan on upgrading to a new Windows Phone handset anytime soon, as Microsoft silently released the Lumia Camera application for this particular device running Windows 10 Mobile.

The new version does not seem to come with any new features in tow, but at least it's now compatible with Windows 10-powered Lumia 1020 devices.

As WMPU points out, Lumia 1020 owners could not install Lumia Camera application on their smartphones unless they were running Windows Phone 8.1.

Windows Insiders who upgraded their Lumia 1020 smartphones to Windows 10 Mobile were not able to install Lumia Camera because it wasn't available for download in Windows Store.

Instead, Lumia 1020 users needed to go back to Windows Phone 8.1, install Lumia Camera on their smartphones, and then upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile once again.

Get all the major features previously available in Windows Phone 8.1 only

However, beginning today, Lumia 1020 owners who run Windows 10 Mobile on their smartphones will be able to download Lumia Camera application directly from Windows Store.

Keep in mind, though, that Lumia Camera will not work on other devices, even though the application might show up in your Windows Store, it will warn you that “your device is not compatible.”

Lumia Camera is a very important application for Lumia 1020 owners because it brings some major new features that otherwise won't be accessible.

For example, Lumia Camera adds DNG RAW support to Lumia 1020, something that Microsoft Camera application lacks. Some other improvements that no other camera app for Windows Phone features are included in Lumia Camera, too.

You can now download Lumia Camera for Windows 10 Mobile for free via Windows Store. The application should be fully compatible with all Lumia 1020 devices running Windows 10 Mobile or up.
