New build now available for the Release Preview Channel

Microsoft has released a new preview build for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview channel, with the company explaining that update KB5003214 is specifically aimed at users running Windows 10 version 20H2 preview builds.

This new update brings the OS build to 19042.1023, and just as expected, it’s specifically focused on non-security improvements to further polish the experience with Windows 10.

For example, Microsoft says this update resolves an issue making it impossible to open phone apps pinned to the taskbar, as well as a problem affecting PWAs and causing the icons to appear blank when users manually pin them to the taskbar.

There are also bug fixes aimed at the desktop, as Microsoft says that in some cases, items deleted from the desktop still showed up, so the company says installing this update resolves the whole thing once and for all for insiders.

Enterprise improvements

Microsoft has also included several improvements specifically aimed at business users and enterprises, including a bug fix specifically aimed at devices using MDM policies.

“We fixed an issue with devices that were configured using mobile device management (MDM) RestrictedGroups, LocalUsersAndGroups, or UserRights policies. These devices incorrectly continue to receive the policy after you use MDM to remove the configuration profile that has the policy. As a result, users of the affected devices might have incorrect group memberships and UserRights assignments or other symptoms. This issue occurs after installing Windows updates from October 29, 2020 and later,” the company explains.

You can find the full changelog in the box after the jump, and if you’re part of the Release Preview channel of the Windows Insider program and running version 20H2 preview builds, you can find the new release in Windows Update where you can install it right away.
