Microsoft used the Patch Tuesday update cycle to ship new improvements to Windows 7 and 8.1 computers as well in the form of monthly rollups that include all the fixes in just a single pack.

This makes deployment substantially easier, with monthly rollups being based on an approach similar to cumulative updates for Windows 10, as they also include the previously-released fixes.

KB4034664 for Windows 7 SP1

As far as Windows 7 systems are concerned, computers running Service Pack 1 are getting KB4034664, an update that includes all the improvements and fixes that were part of update KB4025340 and originally released on July 18.

Additionally, however, it comes with security updates for a number of Windows apps and features, like Internet Explorer, Windows Server, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Common Log File System Driver, and Windows Search Component.

KB4034681 for Windows 8.1

In the case of Windows 8.1 systems, they are getting monthly rollup KB4034681, which includes all improvements that were originally released on July 18 as part of KB4025335, plus two additional fixes.

First and foremost, KB4034681 repairs an issue causing error 0x19 when “a LUN connection that was received after the buffer allocation during iSCSI statistic collection overflowed the buffer,” as Microsoft explains. A future update will add new fixes as well, including for a UI issue that hides the iSCSI targets.

There are also the typical security updates that are shipped as part of Patch Tuesday, including for Windows features like IE, Windows PDF Library, kernel-mode drivers, Windows Hyper-V, and Volume Manager Driver.

Microsoft says it’s aware of a known issue with KB4034681, as NPS authentication could break down and wireless clients may fail to connect. The workaround is to go to the server system, browse to the following path and set DWORD key value to 0.

SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\13\DisableEndEntityClientCertCheck

As with any other update released on Patch Tuesday, users are recommended to install them as soon as possible, especially because security fixes are also included and doing this would help make your system more secure.
