14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just posted this year’s TV commercial for the holiday season, and unsurprisingly, the company is focusing on a Windows 10 feature specifically aimed at creators.
The highlight this year is the new Paint 3D app that’s available in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and which Microsoft presents in conjunction with Remix 3D, an online community whose role is to provide access to a large collection of 3D models and allow users to share their projects.
The video puts the focus on “Gabe the Yeti,” a character which Microsoft says was created in Paint 3D, in an attempt to emphasize the true 3D capabilities of this new application.

“When we are inclusive and celebrate our differences we can make the world a better place. 3D Holiday tells the story of a young girl who goes on an imaginary adventure through space where she and “Gabe the Yeti” encounter various characters who need a little love and support, culminating in a celebration for all,” Microsoft explains.
“In this ad we show Paint 3D, a creativity app available on all Windows 10 PCs. We also feature Remix 3D, a community site for sharing and evolving creations; the majority of the characters in the ad were inspired by those available on Remix 3D.”
Available in the Fall Creators Update, Paint 3D does not replace the original Paint application, but is offered alongside it as a universal app with support for PCs and the Surface Hub.
Even though Paint 3D isn’t clearly the popular app that Microsoft hoped it to be, it has already received more than 1,000 ratings in the Windows Store with an overall score of 4.4 stars out of a maximum of 5. It remains to be seen if this new ad would drive more people to Paint 3D, but at least this way more Windows 10 users become aware of its existence in the latest version of the operating system.
