Microsoft has rolled out a new Skype update for Android, and this time it brings one major improvement: end-to-end encryption for conversations.

Version 8.26.0.70 finally introduces the concept of private conversations, which means that Microsoft officially released end-to-end encryption for its messaging platform on Android too.

As the changelog states, “Skype’s private conversations give you enhanced protection through end-to-end encryption for your conversations with friends and family.”

The same version also includes improvements for Bluetooth connections, as well as other unnamed stability and reliability touches.

Also today, Microsoft has released a new preview version of Skype that is specifically aimed at insiders on both Android and iOS.  These builds of Skype are only created for testing, and users who install them are required to send feedback to the company in order to refine performance and fix bugs ahead of the public launch to all users.

With today’s update, the Skype Insider preview app reaches version 8.27.76.16, and it comes with one single change: three new camera color filters.

“You’ll have the choice of two color effects and a refined black and white filter – all guaranteed to bring out the best in every photo message you send,” Microsoft explains.

Skype has become one of the apps that are spearheading Microsoft’s offensive on Android and is right now among the most successful in the company’s portfolio. Skype has more than 10 million reviews with an overall rating of 4.1 stars out of a maximum of 5. Most of the negative reviews were posted after the company’s major overhaul that substantially changed the UI of the app, pushing it closer to a mobile messaging app.

Skype for Android has more than 1 billion downloads from the Google Play Store alone, and users can also get the stand-alone APK to install it separately. You can download Skype for Android from Softpedia right now.
