New cumulative update for April 2018 Update

Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 cumulative update for the April 2018 Update (version 1803), only a few days after the company shipped its monthly Patch Tuesday fixes.

Cumulative update KB4464218 increases the OS build number to 17134.286, and it brings just a single change that has nothing to do with security.

Microsoft typically publishes security fixes on Patch Tuesday, unless an out-of-band security update is required, and today’s cumulative update is supposed to address one bug in Microsoft Intune. The company explains in the official changelog:

“Addresses a Microsoft Intune issue that occurs after installing any of the updates released between July 24, 2018 and September 11, 2018. Windows no longer recognizes the Personal Information exchange (PFX) certificate that’s used for authenticating to a Wi-Fi or VPN connection. As a result, Microsoft Intune takes a long time to deliver user profiles because it doesn’t recognize that the required certificate is on the device.”

No known issues

There are no known issues in this update, and this means that KB4464218 should install correctly on all devices.

As we learned the hard way from the previous cumulative updates, this is quite a challenge, as releases like this could fail to install or lead to other various issues on Windows 10 systems.

Microsoft is offering this update from Windows Update, but IT admins can also download it manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Windows 10 April 2018 Update is currently the most recent Windows 10 version. A new feature update for the operating system will roll out in October as version 1809 (October 2018 Update), which means that starting next month, Microsoft will ship one more cumulative update every time.

Only the Creators Update and newer are supported right now, while the previous versions are getting updates as part of the LTSC branch and the Education and Enterprise SKUs.
