The final build now becomes Windows 10 19041.208

Microsoft keeps polishing the experience with Windows 10 May 2020 Update, or version 2004, ahead of the highly-anticipated launch next month, and today the company pushed a new cumulative update with more improvements.

This new cumulative update is only available for users in the Release Preview ring who were running the final Windows 10 May 2020 Update, and Microsoft says it includes additional fixes.

There’s one notable change in cumulative update KB4558244, which increases the build number of the operating system to 19041.208: it fixes an issue that fails to send NPLogonNotify API notifications from the credential provider network.

Public rollout in just a few weeks

Other than that, the new image is the same as the previous one, but make sure you install the new release as soon as possible to keep your device up-to-date and prepared for the rollout to production devices next month.

“Today we are releasing Build 19041.208 to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring. While we originally thought that Build 19041.207 would be the final build, we made the decision to take in one more fix we felt was important to have before making the May 2020 Update generally available. We believe that Build 19041.208 is the new final build and still plan on continuing to improve the overall experience of the May 2020 Update on customers’ PCs as part of our normal servicing cadence,” Microsoft explains.

With Windows 10 version 2004 finalized, the rollout should begin in just a few weeks, so it’s all just a matter of time until the first computers receive the new feature update. Just like before, the whole thing will happen in stages, so not everyone is supposed to get Windows 10 May 2020 Update at the same time.

This is an approach that allows Microsoft to detect bugs and prevent them from hitting devices faster than before and which has also been used for the previous feature updates.
