No other platform supports this emoji just yet

If you’ve been following Microsoft news carefully, you probably noticed that the software giant is paying attention to every little detail in Windows 10 in an attempt to improve the experience with the OS.

And since emojis have become so popular on every single platform out there, Microsoft is improving them on Windows 10 too.

The most recent Windows 10 feature updates brought several refinements in this regard, including an emoji keyboard that makes it possible to easily insert a smiley face in a conversation regardless of messaging service being used.

And now it looks like the software giant continues this trend with an exclusive Windows 10 emoji that makes so much sense for users of its operating system.

Ninja Cat has a brother

The Astro Cat emoji, which has been discovered by Emojipedia, is now part of Windows 10 and Windows 10 only, which means that you won’t be able to use it on a different platform, like Android or iOS. In other words, you can’t send it to someone using anything else than Windows 10 because the only thing they’re going to see is a cat head next to a spaceship.

Because that’s exactly what the new Astro Cat emoji actually is. Microsoft created this emoji as a zero width joiner, which involves a string of characters that can be used to generate a new emoji. In this case, it’s the Astro Cat, which as you can see in the photo here, is also branded for Microsoft given the colors of the suit.

For those who’ve been part of the Windows effort for the past years, this makes total sense. Cats, in general, and the Ninja Cat, in particular, are more or less the mascot behind the Windows 10 effort, and are being used occasionally during the Windows Insider program.

Most likely, this new emoji will land on other platforms as well in the coming weeks and months, though it goes without saying it won’t be wearing a Microsoft-branded suit.
