Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 preview build for users in the Dev channel, and fortunately, some pretty big changes are included as well.

Windows 11 build 25158 also comes with new ISO images, so if you’re planning to start from scratch or try out the new release in a virtual machine, these obviously come in handy.

In terms of new features, this new build includes notification badges for widgets, as well as several smaller refinements, including a new search visual update on the taskbar.

Furthermore, Microsoft says it’s pulling the interactive content on the desktop, as the company has collected enough feedback and is therefore proceeding with the development internally. In other words, the content would be removed from all devices.

“Thank you to all the Insiders who gave us feedback on our first exploration of lightweight interactive content on the Windows desktop! Starting with this week’s flight, we are concluding this initial exploration, so if you received this experience, it will be removed on your next reboot,” the company said.

New known issues as well

Microsoft has also announced DNS over TLS testing is now available for Windows DNS client query protection, with some improvements also included for the Nyala font.

“The Nyala font has been updated to support syllables for the Gurage language orthography from the Ethiopic Extended-B Unicode range. Also revised and replaced Ethiopic kerning to fix gaps and errors in earlier implementation improving the overall texture of text in Ethiopic languages,” the company explained.

When it comes to known issues, Microsoft is highlighting two glitches affecting File Explorer, with the company promising fixes in the upcoming releases.

“The up arrow is misaligned in File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update. We’re working on a fix to address reports that launching File Explorer in certain ways when using dark mode (for example, from the command line) is showing the body of File Explorer unexpectedly in light mode,” Microsoft said.
