Microsoft is betting big on the Surface Duo in the mobile market, and while the availability of the device remains pretty limited, the company keeps investing in its marketing push in the United States.

The latest effort in this regard has U.S. gymnast Katelyn Ohashi promoting the Surface Duo as part of a short TV commercial for the Android smartphone, with Microsoft once again highlighting the dual-screen capabilities powered by this new innovative form factor.

While we won’t discuss what eyes can see, worth knowing is that Microsoft has big plans for the Surface Duo next year, so overall, this new ad might actually help the company pave the way for the changes it has in mind for 2021.

Surface Duo in 2021

First and foremost, Microsoft wants to bring the Surface Duo to international markets next year, and Germany is one of the countries to receive the dual-screen Android device.

“Since introducing Surface Duo in August 2020, people have asked when we would make this product available outside of the US. We’re pleased to share that in early 2021, we’ll be offering Surface Duo in Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. We’re excited to share more information at the beginning of 2021, so stay tuned for more,” the company said earlier this month.

In addition, a black version of the Surface Duo is also believed to be planned, and this could be revealed when Microsoft is ready to launch the device internationally.

In the meantime, it’s likely the company is already working on the second-generation model, and this could see the daylight as soon as the holiday season of 2021. Microsoft wants to address all the shortcomings of the first model, including the outdated hardware that so many people have already criticized given the premium price in the United States.
