A vertical app bar is now live in the Office app

The Office app available on Windows 10 is more of a launcher, as it provides access to the documents that you’ve most recently worked with, while also pointing you to shortcuts to the available productivity apps.

In other words, it’s more of a central Office hub, but as an app launcher, it’s supposed to make running Office apps as convenient as possible.

And today, Microsoft has released an update that makes the whole thing even easier, all thanks to a new vertical app launcher that’s available on the main screen of the Office app.

It goes without saying this isn’t a massive makeover of the app, but at the end of the day, it’s an update that makes the Office app itself easier to use. And given that Office has become one of the main tools of the typical employee working from home during these difficult times, every single update that improves the experience with the app is more than welcome.

Office app free in the Store

The Office app for Windows 10 is available for everybody, even if an Office 365 subscription is not available.

“You can use the Office app with almost any version of Office – even the free version of Office Online. The experience will look familiar to anyone who has used Office.com with users finding quick access to all their Office apps and documents. However, we’ve made the experience even better by bringing it to an app form. Now you can get to the Office desktop apps if installed on your device in addition to the web apps on Office Online, access files stored on your local device in addition to OneDrive and SharePoint, and use it while working offline,” Microsoft explained last year when it launched the app.

The new interface makeover is now rolling out in stages, but you can check out a screenshot captured by WBI showing how the whole thing would eventually look for everybody.
