Build 18362 no longer available for Slow ring insiders

While Microsoft is expected to sign off the Windows 10 19H1 (version 1903) RTM sometimes this week, the company has just pulled a Slow ring build that was believed to a release candidate.

Windows 10 build 18362 was pushed to the Slow ring on March 22, and shortly after this release, the company confirmed that a number of users hit error code 0x80242016 when installing the update from Windows Update.

And in a statement this week, Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explains that an issue in one of the cumulative updates released for Slow ring insiders broke down the update process.

“Over the last couple of weeks, Insiders in the Slow ring have been receiving new 19H1 builds in addition to also receiving Cumulative Updates. After flighting Build 18362 to the Slow ring on Friday, Insiders began reporting they were unable to complete the update. We have discovered an issue with the Build 18356.16 (KB4494123) Cumulative Update that was preventing the update to Build 18362 from completing successfully,” the statement reads.

No word on a possible RTM

By the looks of things, this issue only exists on devices running build 18356.16 who are being updated to build 18362, and Microsoft decided to block PCs from being offered the new release in order to prevent the issue from becoming more widespread.

“The team is currently working on a fix now. In the meantime, build 18362 will no longer be offered to Insiders who are on Build 18356.16, so Insider PCs don’t continue to try and take Build 18362 and fail. We will post another update once we release the fix and resume the Build 18362 flight,” Dona Sarkar explained.

For the time being, it’s not yet clear how close to the RTM sign-off date we actually are, but the public rollout of Windows 10 19H1 is still expected to start next month.
