The device is still in the works at the software giant

Surface Andromeda is one of the devices that are still in the works at Microsoft, but which may never see daylight if the project doesn’t advance as the company wants it to.

However, by the looks of things, the software giant keeps improving it, and during a recent presentation, a company employee showed slides confirming that Andromeda is still alive and being worked on.

Reddit user silentcrs reveals in a post on reddit (via @h0x0d) that a Microsoft presentation at the DevOps Enterprise Conference included references to both Surface Andromeda and Windows Core OS, the platform that’s supposed to power the device.

While the information provided to attendees reveals little about Andromeda, it’s another confirmation that Microsoft is still investing in this device, and if everything goes well, it may eventually see daylight.

Possible launch next year

Originally expected this year, Surface Andromeda is believed to have been delayed to 2019, with people close to the matter revealing that the company wants to redesign the device before giving it the go-ahead.

While the same sources indicated that the firm may very well kill off the project if the Microsoft leadership team isn’t satisfied with the way it advances, it looks like this isn’t the case, as Andromeda keeps making the headlines occasionally thanks to references provided by employees themselves.

Andromeda is supposed to help Microsoft invent a new product category as it may use a dual-screen design with a hinge supporting multiple form factors. It could technically be able to convert from laptop to tablet and note-taking device by simply adjusting the orientation of the screens.

The earliest Surface Andromeda could see daylight is in the spring of 2019, but for now, it seems more likely that Microsoft would wait until the fall of the next year to unveil it.
