Bug fix now available for Skype beta testers

Apple has released the first preview build of iOS 12 ahead of the planned release in September, and this gives developers enough time to prepare their apps for the new operating system update.

As one of the biggest companies betting big on their iPhone and iPad apps, Microsoft itself is now working on updates that would include iOS 12 compatibility improvements to make sure that updated devices won’t run into any issues when trying to connect to its services.

The first to get a fix is Skype, which has reportedly encountered a bug in iOS 12 causing crashes when logging in. The issue is exclusive to iOS 12, though Neowin reports that a similar problem was encountered in the first beta builds of iOS 11 as well – this actually isn’t surprising at all given how buggy iOS 11 was, and we’re not talking only about the betas here.

Only available for insiders

The updated version of Skype is only available for insiders at this point and is shipped via the TestFlight program. This means that whoever runs iOS 12 on their devices won’t be able to deploy the new version fixing the bug until Microsoft releases it publicly.

The good thing is that usually it doesn’t take too long for Microsoft to promote bugfixes from the beta stage to stable, so sooner or later, the Skype update should go live in the App Store for everyone.

In the meantime, remember that iOS 12 is still work in progress, and if you’re seeing any bugs hitting your apps, including here those from Microsoft but also the ones released by other developers, it’s all just a matter of time until they are fixed.

iOS 12 is projected to be finalized in September this year, so you are not recommended to install it on your iPhones at this point during the development process.
