The email client would only work on newest OS versions

Microsoft is announcing a series of changes for the Outlook app on iOS, as the company only wants to maintain support for the latest version of the Apple mobile operating system.

In other words, Microsoft will only support the two most recent versions of iOS, according to a report, so when iOS 15 launches next month, only devices running iOS 14 and later would continue to be provided with updates.

At this point, iOS 13 phones are still getting updates, but as per Microsoft’s new approach, only the two most recent versions of the OS are supported.

A similar change is also implemented for watchOS. Apple plans to release a new version of its Apple Watch operating system next month, so once again, when watchOS 8 sees daylight, you need to be running at least watchOS 7 on your smartwatch to get new improvements for the Outlook app.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Outlook already installed on devices running older versions of the operating system would stop working.

That won’t happen, or at least not now, as the email client will continue to work just like before, though devices wouldn’t get any new app updates, therefore missing out on the latest improvements.

Outlook is currently one of the most popular email apps on both iPhone and Android, and thanks to improvements introduced by Apple in iOS 14, users can even configure the app as the default email client on their mobile devices. This has made Outlook the email app of choice for even more users out there, especially in the case of companies where a Microsoft 365 subscription is also available.

The latest version of Outlook for iOS is available in the App Store on this page (support for iOS 13 continues to be offered).
