14 DAY TRIAL // Let’s admit it, Outlook is currently one of the best, if not really the best, email client on Android and iPhone, and the updates that Microsoft ships every once in a while only make it even better.
And as we know already, the Redmond-based software giant is fully keen on delivering an up-to-date experience to its users, and now that iOS 14 is live on the iPhone, the company obviously couldn’t stay away from the latest features that Apple has enabled in this software update.
And support for widgets is one of them, as the Cupertino-based tech giant has redesigned them in iOS 14, thus making the home screen overall more dynamic.
As one of the biggest app makers on iPhone, Microsoft has obviously started working on updates for its iOS apps in order to prepare them for the new OS version, and today, it looks like a calendar widget is already available in the Outlook app.
The new widget experience on iOS 14
We’ve known for a while that this feature was coming, but according to German site WindowsUnited, the widget is now live in the latest version of Outlook. Oddly enough, it doesn’t show up on my iPhone after installing the newest Outlook, so maybe Microsoft is only enabling it for some users, with more to get it at a later time as part of a gradual rollout.
In the meantime, what everybody needs to know is that widgets aren’t interactive and only display static information on the home screen. This is quite a shame, as users can’t do things from the widgets – for example, a music app widget doesn’t allow users to play and pause the playback and can only see song information and artwork.
The latest version of Outlook for iOS is available in the App Store today for all users. iOS 14 requires an iPhone 6s and newer.
