Microsoft has announced a series of new features for Outlook on Mac, and it all starts with support for more email providers.

Beginning with this update, currently available in preview, Outlook for Apple users also supports iCloud, Yahoo, and IMAP accounts, so when you set up a new account, you should be able to select more providers from the get-go.

This makes the configuration process a lot more straightforward, though it’d really be interesting to see how many Apple users still use Yahoo Mail with Outlook.

Then, the app is being updated with shared calendars, mailboxes, and delegation, with the new features available under Outlook Preferences > Account settings.

Do more without leaving your inbox

Microsoft is also adding S/MIME and other features specifically aimed at enterprises.

“S/MIME? You bet! With S/MIME support, you can add even more security, by encrypting messages end-to-end, ensuring only you and your email recipients are able to view messages sent back and forth and rest assured that your emails haven't been tampered with,” the company explained.

“We’ve also added support for Microsoft Information Protection, to help you classify and protect your organization’s data. MIP policy labels can be configured in various ways to suit the needs of your organization.”

Outlook for Mac gets new capabilities to respond to events from the message list and also share emails to Teams, create meetings, and everything, all without leaving your inbox. This is something that comes in incredibly handy to those who spend a lot of time in Outlook, as this update makes it possible to work with all features without actually losing track of what you’re doing.

And last but not least, Outlook now allows users to add contacts to Favorites, which means their emails would be prioritized, with Microsoft explaining the purpose of this feature is to make sure “you never miss an email from” these contacts.
