New Outlook version brings support for Samsung Fold

Microsoft Outlook is currently one of the best, if not really the best, email clients out there, and the mobile versions make no exception.

The Android and iOS Outlook clients, which are based on an app previously called Accompli and which Microsoft purchased a few years ago, are periodically updated with new capabilities, and today the Redmond-based software giant announces a new feature that just makes sense.

It’s better support for dual-screen devices, a form factor that Microsoft itself really loves lately.

Microsoft launched the Surface Duo earlier this month as the company’s very own Android device, and given it comes with a dual-screen configuration, the software firm is obviously working to prepare all of its apps for this new form factor.

More dual-screen updates coming

Outlook already featured dual-screen support, but the update to version 4.2035.2 brings additional refinements and prepares the app for the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

“The side-by-side views you know and love are now optimized for the two screens on your Samsung Fold and your tablet. Log onto Outlook and enjoy the familiar pairings of your inbox with an email, or your agenda with an event,” Microsoft says in an announcement.

Needless to say, Samsung users need to update the app to the latest version to benefit from the improved dual-screen support on the Galaxy Fold.

Microsoft is very likely to continue rolling out such improvements for its app, especially as the Surface Duo has started shipping to customers in the United States. Worth knowing, however, is that the Duo remains a U.S.-exclusive model for now, with Microsoft still considering an international release of the device in early 2021.

A new Surface Duo is also on its way, and it could get the go-ahead as soon as late next year.
