Edge to follow the evolution of Fluent Design overall

Microsoft’s new Edge browser version is playing a key role in the company’s modern software push, as the application is available not only on Windows, but also on macOS and soon on Linux too.

And because Edge is an essential part of Microsoft’s long-term strategy, the browser is also supposed to align with the Fluent Design makeover that the software giant started in Windows and then expanded to other products like Office and the web.

And in new comments on the evolution of Fluent Design in Microsoft Edge, the firm says that the browser will always align with the improvements made to the design language.

In other words, Edge will always be updated to be in line with everything happening in the Microsoft software universe. And right now, Edge is already there, so what you see in the browser at this point is pretty much the best version based on the existing Fluent Design requirements.

Transparency in Microsoft Edge

As for the transparency effect that so many people seem to love, Microsoft says that’s not the number one priority, not only for Edge, but for Fluent Design too.

“If you browse through the Fluent guidance at the link above, you’ll note that the new version of Edge is aligned with the current direction Fluent is going, and we will continue to evolve along with the design system and Microsoft as a whole,” Microsoft said recently in a comment on its support forums (via TechDows).

“While Edge may be one of the first to put some of these new Fluent elements into practice, you will continue to see other products across the company update to reflect this direction as well. For example, you’ll notice that the latest Fluent designs are characterized by rounded corners across objects and controls, and the new version of Edge is consistent with that guidance. Another example is that there isn't a pivotal focus on transparency in the latest Fluent designs, and surfaces of the new version of Edge reflects this.”

And while the UI won’t receive a major overhaul in the coming future, Edge is set to evolve as far as features go. Updates for the Canary build are published every day, while the Dev channel is updated every week. The beta build receives new goodies every six weeks.
