The latest cumulative updates for version 1909 are live

The May 11 Patch Tuesday cycle is the last one for Windows 10 version 1909, as Microsoft has officially retired this version, requiring users to move to a newer release to continue to receive updates.

The last update for Windows 10 version 1909 is therefore KB5003169, which increases the OS build number to 18363.1556.

To check whether you’re running the final build of Windows 10 version 1909, you can click the Start menu and type winver. If you’re already on the build mentioned above, your device is up-to-date, but if you’re currently on Home, Pro, or Pro for Workstation, you need to move to a newer release to continue receiving updates.

Security protection no longer available

Microsoft warns that without security updates, devices are no longer protected should any new vulnerabilities be found.

“Windows 10, version 1909 is at end of service on May 11, 2021 for devices running the Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, Nano Container, and Server SAC editions. After May 11, 2021, these devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10,” the company explains.

Windows 10 version 1909 is still running on a pretty significant number of devices, but worth knowing is that Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise computers would continue to be services normally going forward. So Microsoft is only retiring the consumer versions of the operating system, along with the Nano Container and the Server SAC editions.

A new Windows 10 version is also just around the corner, as Microsoft is getting ready to release Windows 10 21H1 to production devices. The rollout is scheduled to start later this month with the first wave of non-insider computers.
