Only a minor upgrade for the current-generation Surface Pro

Microsoft officially took the wraps off the new-generation Surface Pro model, and just as expected, this isn’t a brand-new device, but a rather subtle upgrade to the current version.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 comes with the same display with a resolution of 2736x1824 pixels and 3:2 aspect ratio, and the bezels around the screen are pretty much unchanged.

What has changed though is the under-the-hood hardware, as the Surface Pro 7 features 10th Generation Intel Core processors.

The 10nm Ice Lake processors make the new model the most powerful Surface Pro to date, and they can be paired with a maximum of 1TB storage and 16GB RAM.

Also new on the Surface Pro 7 is a USB Type-C port that replaces the old-school DisplayPort connector, albeit what’s important to know is that a USB Type-A port continues to be offered as well. Furthermore, the Surface Connect is still there, and so is a microSD card.

Subtle changes

The rest of the Surface Pro is pretty much unchanged, so if you already own the current-generation model, it might be difficult to find a reason to upgrade, aside from the aforementioned improvements in terms of processor.

The new Surface Pro 7 will be available from $749, with the first units to ship to customers beginning on October 22. A pre-order program kicks off today, so you can head over to the Microsoft store to reserve yours.

Microsoft is currently carrying some major discounts for the Surface Pro 6, with the price reduced by as much as $400 in the Microsoft Store, so there’s no better time to buy this old model, especially given the subtle improvements on its replacement.

The Surface Pro 7 will be available in the same color options as the current Surface Pro 6.
