Microsoft has recently announced that Microsoft Office is now fully optimized for Apple Silicon, so customers who purchased devices powered by the M1 chip can now benefit from better performance when running the productivity suite.

One of the best things about Office is that Microsoft has made all apps universal, which means they can run both on Apple Silicon and on devices with Intel chips.

Feature parity will obviously be maintained, so no matter what Apple device you have, the same capabilities will always be provided.

“We are excited to announce that starting today we are releasing new versions of many of our Microsoft 365 for Mac apps that run natively on Macs with M1. This means that now our core flagship Office apps—Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote—will run faster and take full advantage of the performance improvements on new Macs, making you even more productive on the latest MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini,” Microsoft announced today.

“The new Office apps are Universal, so they will continue to run great on Macs with Intel processors. The apps are not only speedy, but they also look fantastic as they have been redesigned to match the new look of macOS Big Sur. Here is a peek at Outlook on the new 13-inch MacBook Pro.”

Microsoft Office Start experience launching next month

If you’re already on Apple Silicon, the best way to get the Office update is through the Mac App Store, where you’ll be provided with the latest improvements.

Microsoft has been investing aggressively in a more refined Office experience on Mac devices, and the living proof in this regard is the new Outlook for Mac that was announced and released earlier this year. Furthermore, the Office Start experience uses Microsoft’s Fluent design system, the language that Windows 10 users absolutely love. Microsoft says Office Start will go live next month.
