14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft recently took the time to explain why not all Lumia 1020 camera features are available on Windows 10 Mobile devices, so those who own this particular model might want to read further.
It appears that many of Lumia 1020's camera features, such as 41MP capture and DNG files support, are not available on devices running Windows 10 Mobile Preview builds.
The reason would be the fact that these features only work with the Lumia Camera application, which apparently is compatible with Windows 10 Mobile but it won't be available for download from the Windows Store until later this fall.
If you haven't upgraded to a Windows 10 Mobile Preview build, then your Lumia 1020 camera should work as intended and you will be able to benefit from all its advanced features.
However, if you're a Windows Insider who is now on Windows 10 Mobile Preview, then you will not be able to use its advanced features until Lumia Camera app gets released in Windows Store.
These issues do not affect other Lumia smartphones
But if you absolutely need these advanced features and can't wait until Microsoft makes Lumia Camera available for Windows 10 Mobile, then you can regain all your camera's functionality by returning to Windows Phone 8.1.
In order to do that, you will have to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool. Once you get back to Windows Phone 8.1, you will be able to download the Lumia Camera application, which enables all these advanced features for Lumia 1020 camera mentioned earlier.
Keep in mind that if you have another Lumia smartphone, you won't be affected by these issues, since the default Windows Camera application already supports all Lumia features except Living Images, which will be available to Lumia smartphones soon.
That being said, Lumia 1020 users now have the choice to return to Windows Phone 8.1 is order to benefit from their camera's full functionality, or remain on Windows 10 Mobile Preview until Microsoft releases the Lumia Camera application.
