Windows Phone fans who patiently await Microsoft's next flagship smartphone or any other high-end handset that would run the company's mobile platform might want to take into consideration purchasing the Lumia 950 XL.

Earlier today, there were rumors that Microsoft was offering a Lumia 950 for free to all customers who bought the Lumia 950 XL in Canada. The deal was available through the online Microsoft Store and did not have a time limit.

Fast forward several hours, and the offer is now available in the United States as well. Customers who purchase the Lumia 950 XL for $650 via the online Microsoft Store will receive the Lumia 950 ($550) for free.

As mentioned, the deal is only available online for the time being, but Microsoft's brick-and-mortar stores might start honoring it as well.

Unlocked, dual-SIM versions are up for the taking

Naturally, the devices that can be obtained through this deal come unlocked, but you will be able to use them with two carriers since both Lumia smartphones come in dual-SIM version.

According to Microsoft, all orders ship by April 27. Customers can choose between black and white Lumia smartphones, and they can also get a $25 T-Mobile pre-paid SIM for only $15 during the checkout process.

Windows Phone market has dropped dramatically in the United States in the last few years, but Microsoft's deal on Lumia 950 might not be an attempt to gain back some of the fans.

Perhaps the Redmond-based company wants to get rid of the Lumia 950XL/950 stock, and North America seems like a good place to tempt customers into taking advantage of this offer.

Do you plan to grab the Lumia 950 XL through the online Microsoft Store in the United States or Canada, just to be able to grab the Lumia 950 for free, or do you simply prefer Windows Phone over other mobile platforms?
