SwiftKey powering a cross-platform clipboard

Microsoft is allowing users to copy and paste between Android and Windows using SwiftKey, therefore making it possible to transfer text and links much more straightforward.

Thanks to the integration of SwiftKey in Windows and the dedicated mobile app on Android, users can now access a Cloud Clipboard that syncs the copied text between the two platforms.

The feature works both ways, and only supports the last item you copied.

You need to be running a new version of Windows 10 (Windows 11 is also supported) and have the Android version of SwiftKey up-to-date on your mobile device.

“The days of emailing yourself website links, phone numbers and addresses are a thing of the past. You can now use Microsoft SwiftKey’s Cloud Clipboard feature to sync your copied text between SwiftKey Keyboard and Windows. Cloud Clipboard is currently only available for Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard on Android. It also requires a PC running Windows 10,” Microsoft explains.

No iPhone support at this point

Worth knowing is that you must be logged in with the same Microsoft account on both devices, and iPhones are not supported. Needless to say, it doesn’t work on Linux and Mac.

Microsoft explains that once you send something to the Cloud Clipboard, the item remains available for one hour before it expires. This means you only have 60 minutes to paste it on another device thanks to this Cloud Clipboard – or until you copy something else to the Clipboard and therefore replace it.

“Your Cloud Clipboard will only ever retain your last copied clip. Your clip will be available for an hour. By default, your last copied cloud clip will be shown on your prediction bar as a quick paste option. You can find the setting to turn this off by opening your Microsoft SwiftKey app and tapping on Rich input > Clipboard > Show last copied clip as quick paste option in prediction bar.,” Microsoft explains.
