The Windows console continues to play an essential role for the Windows experience in the case of power users, and this is why the integration of Windows Terminal has been received with so much excitement by everybody out there.

The latest Windows 11 preview build, however, comes with a little change that actually makes a lot of change: if Windows Terminal has already been removed from the device, the Win + X menu displays the Windows PowerShell as an alternative.

In other words, users are always provided with a console, no matter if Windows Terminal is on their devices or not.

“To ensure users are still able to quickly access the console if Windows Terminal has been uninstalled, we are updating the WIN + X menu to point to Windows PowerShell. If you have Windows Terminal installed and would like Windows PowerShell to open in Windows Terminal, we recommend going to Settings > Privacy & Security > For Developers, and setting Windows Terminal as your default terminal app,” Microsoft says.

This change is part of Windows 11 build 22579 in the Windows Insider program.

More changes in the Dev channel

And speaking of the latest Dev channel build, it also comes with additional refinements to improve the UI of the operating system.

“As some Insiders noticed, along with our updated Print Queue experience, we have also made an update so that win32 apps which use CPrintDialog to display the print dialog will now show our modern print dialog. In addition, the modern print dialog discovers local network printers automatically. If you choose a new printer, it will be installed without you needing to go into Settings,” the company explained.

The latest Windows 11 preview build is available for download right now for anyone who is part of the Dev channel.
