Apple says the iPad is now a PC, thanks to the keyboard

There was a time when Apple thought that putting a keyboard on a tablet was like “converging a toaster and a refrigerator,” with CEO Tim Cook himself making fun of Microsoft’s Surface, but now Cupertino seems to be really interested in this business and is even looking into ways to expand its lineup.

The iPad Pro, which was launched last year in September, is Apple’s first mix of a toaster and refrigerator and comes with a detachable keyboard that makes it work more like a computer.

And Apple hasn’t missed the occasion to call the iPad Pro “a computer,” but now it’s payback time for Microsoft, which mocks its rival’s marketing efforts to show what a real computer is all about.

“We’ll show you what’s a PC”

In a new ad released today, Microsoft pokes fun at the iPad Pro and imagines a conversation between the iPad Pro and the Surface Pro 4 that turns to be a little embarrassing for Apple.

“Just because you call something a computer doesn’t mean it fits the description. Cortana knows that the Surface Pro 4, with its powerful Intel Core processor, detachable keyboard with real keys and a trackpad, pen, touchscreen, full Office and external ports fits the description. Everything else is just late to the party,” the video description reads.

Brian Hall, who is the General manager of Surface at Microsoft, also took to Twitter to make fun of Apple’s efforts to turn the iPad Pro into a computer.

“iPad Pro says it’s computer. Huh. We thought we'd show a little about what a real Pro and a real computer does…” he tweeted, along with a link to the video that you can watch below.

Microsoft is expected to unveil new Surface models this year in October, including the second-generation Surface Book laptop, as well as the Surface Pro 5, which should come with improved features, new hardware, overhauled keyboards and pens, but also with some design refinements.
