More ads making their way to Outlook mobile

Microsoft Outlook is a great email app on both iPhone and Android, but on the other hand, there’s something that makes quite a lot of people walk away.

Despite being developed by Microsoft, Outlook mobile comes with ads, and for some reason, the software giant now believes the app doesn’t have too many of them.

In other words, while ads are already part of the Outlook experience, Microsoft wants to bring more of them to users, with a recent report confirming that it’ll be harder to get an ad-free experience in the app.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand how Outlook works.

Microsoft allows users to configure Outlook with either a single inbox or with a dual-inbox setup that uses AI to send the incoming email to the appropriate folder. The main inbox is called Focused, and it includes the mail you definitely need to see, while the second is known as Other and has a dedicated tab where the less important email is redirected.

More ads because why not?

The single inbox version of Outlook works just like any other email app out there.

A long time ago when someone at Microsoft decided to ruin the Outlook experience, the company introduced ads in the Other tab when the focused inbox was enabled. The ads are displayed as an email, and they show up in the list of messages in the inbox.

It was recently discovered that Microsoft is now bringing ads to the single inbox version of Outlook as well, and the very same approach as the one described above is going to be used.

Microsoft has already confirmed the change and said that the only way to avoid seeing ads in Outlook all the time is to enable the focused inbox. This way, the ads will only be shown in the Other tab.
