The Lumia 550 is a little bit overshadowed by the other two Windows 10 smartphones that should make their debut on the market in the next couple of weeks.

The budget-friendly smartphone is likely to sell more units than the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, but it does seem to get less attention from the fans for the moment.

That's because Microsoft said the phone wouldn't be available until December, while the other two, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL should be released this month.

The good news is customers in the UK can now pre-order the Lumia 550 if they feel the new Windows 10 Mobile operating system is worth it.

Major retailer Carphone Warehouse offers the Lumia 550 for just £90 (€125 / $135) outright, but customers can also get it for free on £9.50/month contracts.

The cheapest Windows 10 smartphone

On the other hand, Microsoft Lumia 550 costs £99 (€140 / $150) at Clove UK. Also, Unlocked Mobiles is taking pre-orders for the budget-friendly smartphone, so customers will be able to get it for £95 (€135 / $145) outright.

Those who pre-order the Lumia 550 from any of these UK-based retailers might want to know that they will possibly receive their phones by December 10. Carphone Warehouse claims on its webstore that the Lumia 550 should be delivered by December 8.

Lumia 550 is the cheapest smartphone to come with Windows 10 Mobile right out of the box. The handset offers decent specs such as 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

Also, the device sports a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that feature HD (720p) resolution. At the back, Lumia 550 packs a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, but there's also a secondary 2-megapixel selfies camera at the front.

According to Microsoft, the 2,100 mAh battery powering the Lumia 550 should provide users with up to 28 days of standby time or up to 16 hours of talk time.
