While Microsoft is now giving the final touches to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update for PCs ahead of the October 17 launch, the company is also advancing with the feature2 update for mobile devices.

And today, the firm rolled out a release candidate for what it calls Windows 10 Mobile Fall Creators Update (not feature2) to the Fast and Slow rings as part of the Windows Insider program, though the company still doesn’t say anything regarding the launch date.

No major improvements

In the past, Microsoft promised to synchronize the release of PC and mobile updates, but in the case of the Creators Update, the company shipped the final builds separately, with major feature differences between the two. This time, a similar approach could be adopted as well, especially because Microsoft is yet to announce a launch date for the mobile update, while PCs are getting it next week.

“We have released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 15254.1 for Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast and Slow rings. This build is currently the release candidate for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update for Mobile. This build includes all the same fixes from Build 15252 and also includes all the improvements from KB4041676,” Microsoft announced.

As for the new features coming to mobile devices with the release of this update, there’s not much to get except for two-factor authentication for enterprises, AppLocker improvements, and VPN tweaks like MMS support with a VPN connection, IKEv2 sleep and power refinements, and proxy improvements for UWP.

Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore earlier this week confirmed that Windows phones are no longer a priority for the software giant, with no new hardware and feature on the radar at the moment. Instead, the firm will spend more time on making all of its services and apps available on Android and iOS, the two leading mobile platforms where the majority of developers and users go.
