Microsoft launches Visual Studio 2017 as the most recent version of its super-advanced developing solution providing “unparalleled productivity for any dev, any app, and any platform.”

Visual Studio comes with a long series of new features, but also with a new lightweight and modular installation experience which Microsoft says can be tailored to any customer’s needs.

Specifically, the new installer makes it possible to select and install only the features that each customer needs, thus reducing the minimum footprint on Visual Studio, especially on systems where storage is a main concern.

Additionally, Microsoft has focused particularly on making the installer faster and cutting the impact on system performance during the process, but also on uninstalling, with the whole thing now taking place at an increased speed and without leaving behind any traces or files.

While we’re not going to discuss the changelog because the list of new features is huge (and you can check it in full here), it’s worth noting that Microsoft focused specifically on enhancing the coding experience regardless of the target platform, so Android, iOS, and Windows are all getting substantial improvements.

“New features, such as live dependency validation, help drive DevOps earlier in the development process. In addition, enhancements to popular features, like code navigation, IntelliSense, refactoring, and code fixes, save you time and effort, regardless of language or platform,” Microsoft explains.

Unsurprisingly, the Redmond-based software giant is also betting big on cloud features, so Visual Studio 2017 comes with full cloud integration, which means that it supports .NET Core, Azure applications, services, and Docker containers.

In addition to the full Visual Studio 2017 package, there is also a free version that comes in handy for those who do not want to spend a fortune on a coding solution.

Also today, Microsoft introduced a new preview version for Mac systems that itself comes with a bunch of improvements and fixes, as work on finalizing the application continues.
